Finding True North...

It was Christmas 2009. I was sitting at my laptop late one night, contemplating the fork in the road that life had presented.

Feeling desperately frustrated not knowing which direction to take, I looked up towards the heavens and cried out, “Where the bloody hell do you want me to go?!”

I'm still in awe of what happened next...

Finding True North

“Hawai’i!" came the unexpected response, the inflection almost resembling a command. Life then suddenly came to a standstill, as if to gift me a “watch and learn” opportunity I would never forget…

The first, almost simultaneous response, was instinctual and came from my heart. It had pinged in repeated succession, like a slot machine dispensing its jackpot. This affirmed an undeniable and resounding, “Abso-effing-lutely!" 

Bemused, I remembered a BBC documentary about the islands I’d seen years prior, when I decided it was definitely a destination I would never have an interest in visiting.

Before my ego-mind could engage, I was typing, “Craig’s List Hawai’i” into my Internet browser. Then, my inner critic stormed in enraged at the audacity of my heart having made a decision without even a consultation. It argued that Hawai’i was too far and too expensive and that I was absolutely not going - but my fingers kept typing because even though I had no idea why, I felt every cell in my body know this decision was non-negotiable.

Aside from the entertaining inner dialogue and the intrigue of “spirit over matter,” this moment would come to mark the most pivotal time on my evolutionary journey, for unbeknown to me, it would not only change my life, it would completely change me.

The key to finding "true north," was having the confidence to recognize my instinctual responses, the ones that aligned with my innermost truth, having the courage to act upon them and allow them to lead the way - and what an incredible journey they took me on.

I’ve come to learn through experience, that it’s only when you come into coherence with yourself, can your life then come into coherence with you…
